F30-39 Half Marathon: Correa Dominates in the Sacramento Fog

• Sarah Correa won the F30-39 race in 1:25:17 (6:31/mi), never leaving the top women's spot from gun to tape.
• Katie Trent and Allison Cronk finished 2nd and 3rd just 25 seconds apart — 1:34:35 to 1:35:00 — after trading the same top-three women's splits on the Out & Back→Lap 1 segment.
• Genessee Tudino had the most dramatic reversal: she ran the 2nd-fastest women's split on the Out & Back→Lap 1 leg, then faded from 2nd among women to 16th by the finish — a swing of 14 places.
• Carolyn Perrotti Lake was the day's quiet mover in the opposite direction, climbing from 17th among women at the first checkpoint all the way to 11th at the finish, posting the 10th-fastest women's split on the Lap 1→Finish segment.

Fifty degrees and heavy fog blanketed Sacramento for the Jed Smith Ultra Classic Half Marathon, and in the F30-39 group, the conditions sorted things out fast. Correa, 35, from Folsom, went straight to the front of the women's field and stayed there, running 6:31 per mile across 13.1 miles — a pace that left the rest of the age group well behind. Her lead was never in question.

Behind her, Trent and Cronk ran nearly identical races. Both held the 2nd and 3rd spots among women through the Out & Back and Lap 1 segments, and both carried the 2nd- and 3rd-fastest women's splits on that stretch. At the line, just 25 seconds separated them — Trent in 1:34:35, Cronk in 1:35:00 — after what was essentially a parallel effort for 13 miles.

The most compelling subplot belonged to Tudino. The 31-year-old Sacramento runner was flying early — 2nd among women through the Out & Back→Lap 1 split — but the back half told a completely different story. She finished 5th in the F30-39 group and 16th among women overall, a fade that cost her 14 places in the women's standings. Lake, meanwhile, ran the opposite arc: patient early, strong late, climbing steadily from 17th among women at the first check to 11th at the finish to claim 4th in the age group.
