Sam Rice didn't just win the M19 & Under race — he dominated it. The 16-year-old from Troon crossed in 34:58 at a 5:38/mi clip, a pace that would have been competitive against the 2022 overall field (where the men's winner ran 32:28). His margin over 2nd place was 3 minutes and 20 seconds — a gap that makes this less a race and more a statement.

Behind Rice, Marco Boettcher (16, Rösrath) and Jonathan Rodriguez (15, Waipahu) waged their own compelling battle for the podium. Boettcher held 2nd in 38:18, with Rodriguez pressing him at 39:15 — just 57 seconds back. Both finished under 40 minutes, and at 15, Rodriguez's 6:19/mi pace stands as one of the sharper efforts in this field.

The next cluster told a different story. Fernando Jr Zavala (4th, 43:58) and Lachlan Scroggins (5th, 45:28) finished well clear of a tight pack from 6th through 11th, where six runners — Matthew Rich through Angel Chimal — were separated by just 1 minute and 24 seconds across finishes ranging from 47:27 to 48:51.

Two ages deserve a special mention. Sebastian Frecea, 13, ran a composed 48:50 to finish 10th, beating runners four and five years his senior. And then there's Jonathan Wong — 9 years old, from San Francisco — who finished 12th in 49:05. Whatever the future holds for this field, Wong's finish here at age 9 is the kind of number that sticks.
