Women's 10K: Perrero Takes San Francisco in 37:38

• Liz Perrero, 24, wins in 37:38 (6:03/mi) — more than 40 seconds clear of runner-up Lucie James (38:20, 6:10/mi).
• Tight podium battle: Karolina Iznerowicz (3rd, 39:37) and Julie Platt (4th, 40:06) were separated by just 29 seconds, with Platt the only top-four finisher not from California.
• A gap opens at 5th: Lucía Saborido (43:24, 6:59/mi) and Shamara Carney (43:32, 7:00/mi) were separated by only 8 seconds — but both finished nearly 3:20 behind Platt, marking a clear break from the top four.
• Youngest finisher in the top 20: Annabel Chung, just 13 years old, crossed in 45:33 (7:20/mi) for 19th among 1,904 women.

Liz Perrero of Menlo Park ran the most commanding race of the morning, clocking 37:38 at a 6:03/mi clip across San Francisco's iconic and demanding streets. That margin of 42 seconds over Lucie James of Sausalito was decisive — James ran a strong 38:20 (6:10/mi) but never got close enough to threaten. The top two were in a class of their own, with the rest of the podium nearly a minute and a half further back.

Behind them, Karolina Iznerowicz (39:37) and Julie Platt (40:06) waged a quiet but real battle for third. Iznerowicz held the edge by 29 seconds, but Platt — traveling from Philadelphia to race San Francisco's hills — made her presence felt. The top four collectively finished well clear of the rest of the field; fifth place Saborido came home in 43:24, more than three minutes adrift of Platt.

From fifth onward, the racing grew tighter. Saborido (43:24), Carney (43:32), Tsareva (43:58), Zhao (44:01), Stewart (44:05), and Aguilar (44:16) were all packed within 52 seconds of each other — six women trading places across the 6:59–7:07/mi range. Further back, Kristen Kelly (44:58), Hilary Fitzsimmons (44:59), and Christine Kwon (45:00) finished within two seconds of one another for 12th through 14th. In a women's field of 1,904 finishers, the depth was real — and Annabel Chung's 19th-place finish at age 13, running 45:33, was one of the day's quieter standout moments.
