Derek Fearon, 24, from Washington, DC, came to San Francisco and ran a race that got better with every mile. Starting 20th among men, he was still 17th at the midpoint — but then the back half happened. Fearon surged relentlessly through the final stretch, posting the fastest split among all men on the 22M–24M segment and rocketing from 17th to 7th in the men's field between miles 22 and the finish line. His winning time of 2:35:14 at a 5:55/mi clip was a full minute and seven seconds clear of the field, and it was earned the hard way — from behind.

Liam Bush was the steadiest runner in the M20-29 field. The San Francisco local moved from 12th to 10th among men and barely budged from that corridor all day, including the 7th-fastest split in the field on the 10.5M→12M segment. His 2:36:21 was a composed, controlled performance that held off Ryan Kachnowski, who took a different approach entirely — blasting out of the gates with the 8th-fastest split in the field on the 6M–8M segment and briefly climbing to 8th among men before fading to 14th in the men's field by the finish. Kachnowski's 2:38:19 still earned him 3rd in M20-29.

Kaelen Ruder (4th, 2:42:35) and Ian Horsburgh (5th, 2:46:09) rounded out a podium chase separated by nearly four minutes, while the battle for 7th through 9th was remarkably tight: McManus (2:49:50), O'Connor (2:49:53), and Vianey Ellison (2:50:12) all finished within 22 seconds of each other. In a 648-runner field, those margins are razor-thin — but Fearon's margin at the front was anything but.
