Jackson Bybee had the M15-19 age group entirely to himself on Saturday, but the clock still had something to say. Running through warm, humid air with a stiff wind, the 16-year-old from Huntsville posted a 1:47:26 finish at 8:12 per mile — a solid half marathon effort under conditions that had nothing to do with fast times.

There's no podium battle to narrate here, but Bybee's run stands on its own merits. He was the only teenager in the M15-19 group to toe the line and see it through, and he did so in weather that would have tested runners of any age. The wind and humidity were the real competition, and he handled both well enough to bring it home in under 1:48.
