Nate Pudner made this race look straightforward from the front. The 24-year-old from Mobile ran 5:20/mi across 13.1 miles in 60°F humidity, never relinquishing his lead and closing the final stretch with the fastest 10K→Finish split among the men. Matt Lemon from Dayton shadowed him in the standings throughout, holding 2nd wire-to-wire with a 5:40/mi effort and finishing in 1:14:16. The gap between them — over four minutes — tells the real story of how dominant Pudner was up front.

Everything behind Lemon was a different race entirely. Four men — Clark, Ingalls, Savoie, and Rundell — arrived at the finish within 15 seconds of each other after 13.1 miles, and the order they crossed wasn't the order they'd been running. Dylan Clark, who had been sitting 4th at the 10K mark, ran the 4th-fastest closing split to finish 3rd in 1:29:22. Holt Ingalls came from 6th at the 10K checkpoint to claim 3rd overall with the 3rd-fastest closing split — but Clark's timing was just a touch sharper, edging him by three seconds. Meanwhile, Asa Savoie — 17 years old and running 6:50/mi — had held 3rd through 10K before fading to 5th in 1:29:36, one second ahead of Rundell's 1:29:37 in 6th.

Tyler Dobbins capped a busy weekend at the Rocket City Marathon, adding an 11th-place half marathon finish (1:38:37) to earlier results of 8th in the men's 10K and 8th in the men's 5K. And at the back of the top ten, Scott Murr's 1:36:37 at age 61 — good for 8th among the men — deserves its own mention: running 7:22/mi for a half marathon is a performance that holds up at any age.
