Rocket City Front Half: Kathleen Johnston Dominates F60-64

• Tight battle for 2nd and 3rd: Missy Townsley (2:31:21) held off Lisa Millam (2:34:35) by just over three minutes — both women also picked up places in the women's field over the second half.
• Photo-finish at the back: Alda Ollactillium and Anita Banks both clocked 4:03 — separated by just three seconds after more than four hours of racing.

Kathleen Johnston, 63, of Nashville, made the F60-64 race her own from the gun. Running 13:39/mi faster than the field average, her 2:03:16 was a commanding performance — and her 34th-fastest women's split on the 10K-to-Finish stretch showed she wasn't just sitting on a lead, she was still pushing through the back half. She held her position at 38th among all women with the same authority she held in her age group.

Behind Johnston, Missy Townsley and Lisa Millam waged a genuine battle for the podium. Townsley (2:31:21, 11:33/mi) and Millam (2:34:35, 11:48/mi) both gained ground in the women's field over the second half — Townsley climbing from 98th to 92nd, Millam from 105th to 99th. Their nearly identical 10K-to-Finish split ranks (88th and 91st among women, respectively) tell the story: two runners evenly matched, with Townsley holding just over three minutes at the line.

Linda Meeks of Memphis rounded out the top four at 2:59:01, crossing just inside the three-hour mark at a 13:39/mi clip. Then came the day's closest finish: Alda Ollactillium of Fort Worth and Anita Banks of Arab, Alabama, both recorded a 18:34/mi average pace and finished within three seconds of each other — Ollactillium in 4:03:25, Banks in 4:03:28. In a six-woman field, every finisher earned it on a warm, humid December morning in Huntsville.
