Pritchard ran a different kind of race — she actually lost ground through the first half, dropping to 446th among women at 15K before reversing course with a strong second half that carried her all the way back to 2nd. Macera was the most consistent climber of the three, progressing steadily from 592nd among women at 5K to 418th at the finish, never wavering. Further back, Lademan's race was the subplot of the day.
