Women's 30K: Hawgood dominates while a 67-year-old and a 13-year-old steal the show

• Genevieve Callahan, 67, finished 3rd in 3:17:02, edging Saige Harrington, 13, by just 2:45 — two of the most compelling stories in the field separated by less than three minutes.
• Alicia Rodriguez (3:52:21) and Jazzlyn Stafford (3:52:23) finished 6th and 7th just two seconds apart after 30 kilometers of racing.
• The women's field spanned 54 years from youngest to oldest finisher.

Emily Hawgood ran a controlled masterclass through the Sacramento fog, holding first place at every checkpoint and averaging a brisk 6:39 per mile across 30 kilometers. Her fastest women's split on the Out & Back→Lap 1 segment made clear this was no accidental lead — she was the strongest woman in the field from the gun, finishing in 2:03:59, nearly 51 minutes clear of second place. Seanne Musca, also 31, chased as hard as anyone could, posting the second-fastest women's split on that same segment and moving from 3rd to 2nd by the midpoint, where she held on to finish in 2:54:46 at 9:23/mi.

Behind Musca, the race produced one of its best sub-plots: a 67-year-old and a 13-year-old trading places for the final podium spot. Saige Harrington of Folsom ran a strong early race, sitting 2nd at the first checkpoint before settling into 3rd, then 4th. Genevieve Callahan of Roseville was patient — 4th through most of the race — but posted the 3rd-fastest women's split on the Lap 1→Lap 2 segment to close the gap and lock in 3rd at 3:17:02. Harrington finished 4th in 3:19:47, just 2:45 back. Virginia Larose (53) was steady throughout, holding 5th from start to finish in 3:22:34.

At the back of the women's field, Rodriguez and Stafford ran the final kilometers in near-lockstep. Rodriguez crossed in 3:52:21, Stafford in 3:52:23 — two seconds separating them after nearly four hours of racing. Elizabeth Heinberger rounded out the eight-woman field in 5:15:22.
