Behind Purcell, the real drama was Anna Watson's charge from the back of the top five. Sitting 5th through the first checkpoint, Watson reeled in competitors one by one, ultimately running the fastest women's closing split of Toro Creek→Finish to land 2nd in 2:09:44. That's a catch-up story worth savoring: while Anderson held on for 3rd (2:12:42) and Lauren Matheou ran a remarkably steady race to 4th (2:16:23, never moving off that spot), Watson was the one accelerating when others were managing the final miles.
