Jason Harcum turned in the kind of race that wins convincingly on a course like this. Running across terrain that climbs to nearly 8,800 feet above sea level, he averaged 11:01 per mile and steadily moved through the men's field as the race progressed — tracking from 48th among men at the first checkpoint all the way to 30th by the back half, where he locked in and held position to the line. The race was won in the middle miles; by the time the final climbs arrived, the outcome in M40-49 was settled.

Todd Simpson, 41, from Bend, made his move late. His High Camp 2→Finish split was among the fastest in the entire field on that segment, and he climbed from 57th among men early to 33rd by the finish — but Harcum's cushion, built through the race's midsection, was never seriously threatened. Simpson's 5:20:36 was a strong run in its own right, and his closing kick earned him a clear 2nd place.

Michael Postaski rounded out the podium with a similar story — steady progression through the men's field and a sharp closing segment that was the 25th-fastest on High Camp 2→Finish. His 5:27:54 left him 12:51 behind Harcum overall, but comfortably clear of 4th-place Aaron Flynn (5:35:09). Flynn and Aaron Mccready (5:36:29) battled closest to each other all day, separated by just 1:20 at the line — the tightest gap anywhere on the M40-49 podium.
