Cody Poskin, 24, out of Cedar Hill, MO, ran the kind of race that rewards patience. He entered the men's field in the middle of the pack and spent the first half of the course grinding forward checkpoint by checkpoint — 28th, 29th, 25th, 22nd — before a decisive surge on the back half vaulted him to 16th and then 12th among men overall. His 9:44/mi average over a course that tops out above 8,800 feet tells you the effort was real. His 5th-fastest split on the KT 2→Siberia 2 segment was the engine of that move, and the margin he built held all the way to the tape.

Michael Mitchell, 27, from Buena Vista, CO — a mountain town that sits at 8,000 feet itself — ran a remarkably controlled race, hovering between 14th and 19th among men from start to finish and never fading badly. He posted the 11th-fastest split on the High Camp 1→Village leg, which kept him clear of Willson Moore's late charge. Moore, running out of Bozeman, MT, was the most dramatic mover in the top five: 37th among men at the gun, he steadily reeled in rivals through the mid-race climbs and arrived 17th among men, good for 3rd in M20-29 at 4:47:19.

Aj Beers rounded out the podium conversation in 4th, finishing 22nd among men at 4:54:10 and logging the 10th-fastest split on the punishing High Camp 2→Finish stretch — a sign he still had legs when others were fading. Behind the top five, the field spread out considerably: 10th-place Taylor Hitt (5:30:59) and 11th-place Dante Paszkeicz (5:31:09) were separated by just 10 seconds after nearly five and a half hours of racing at elevation, one of the tightest micro-battles of the day in the M20-29 field.
