Broken Arrow Skyrace 23K — M50-59: Backholm dominates from the gun

• Ari Backholm won M50-59 in 2:23:14 (10:01/mi), finishing 18 minutes and 3 seconds clear of second place — the largest margin on the podium by a wide distance.
• Andrea Pozzi held second through most of the race before a late fade, while Shawn Bearden ran a steady climb to seal third in 2:49:27.
• Tav Streit made the most dramatic charge of the day, surging from well outside the top 150 in the men's field at the start to 147th by the finish — a sustained move across the entire course.
• Dan Stoll, by contrast, ran the inverse race: starting well inside the top 120 in the men's field, he drifted back to 158th by the finish, the clearest fade of the top five.

Ari Backholm set the tone early and never let up. Running at 10:01 per mile across a course that climbs from roughly 6,200 to nearly 8,800 feet — where the thin air at elevation can turn legs to lead for the unprepared — he moved progressively through the men's field at every checkpoint, going from 94th to 65th by the finish. His final push from High Camp to the line was among the stronger closing splits in the field, and the 18-minute winning margin tells its own story: this wasn't a close race at the front.

Behind him, Andrea Pozzi ran a controlled first half, moving from 120th to 90th in the men's field by the penultimate checkpoint. But the closing miles cost her — she slipped back to 102nd by the finish, and Shawn Bearden, steady throughout, closed to within 8 minutes and 10 seconds for third. Bearden's best segment came on the Siberia–High Camp stretch, where he posted one of the stronger splits of his race.

Fourth through sixth were separated by just over five minutes across the line, with Tav Streit's relentless forward progress the standout subplot. He was deep in the men's field at the opening checkpoint and kept chipping away at places all the way to the tape. Greg Tew (3:02:23) and Matthew Settle (3:03:03) rounded out a tight cluster just behind fifth-place Stoll, with eight of the top ten finishing within a 44-minute window behind Backholm's commanding 2:23:14.
