• Roger Fabing (70, Lompoc) is the story of the back half of the field — finishing 9th in 4:00:57 at 11:05/mi, ahead of six finishers decades younger.

Chris Harris made his intentions clear early. Sitting 5th among the men at the first checkpoint, he had climbed to 4th by Skyline 1 and held that position through the finish — steady, not flashy, but backed by the 4th-fastest men's split on the Skyline 1→Skyline 2 stretch. His 3:11:12 left a five-minute-plus gap to second place, and at 8:47/mi through this kind of terrain, that margin was earned.

Behind him, Conrad and Blameuser ran a proper cat-and-mouse race for the podium. The middle of the Masters Men field — Shawn Thorne (45, Orinda) 6th in 3:42:05, Alec Berg (40, San Mateo) 7th in 3:42:45, and Jeff Landry (55, San Rafael) 8th in 3:45:55 — was tightly bunched within four minutes of each other. Then came Roger Fabing, 70 years old, covering 35K of redwood trail in 4:00:57 to finish 9th. The final five finishers — Gaetan Barthelemy through David Roberts — spread from 4:07:38 to 5:31:50, each completing the full course within the time limit under cool, clear skies.
