Way Too Cool 10M Men: Lavin Leads Wire to Wire in the Heat

• Travis Lavin (Reno, NV, age 38) won the men's race in 1:10:31 (7:03/mi), holding 1st from start to finish and posting the fastest Fire Station→HWY 49 split in the men's field.
• Collin Paris (age 26) was runner-up in 1:12:33 — just over two minutes back — with the second-fastest split on that same segment.
• John Holcombe (age 37) finished 5th in 1:31:44 (9:10/mi), trimming more than four and a half minutes off his 5th-place finish here in 2025 (1:36:20).
• 13-year-old Cody Skibby (Orangevale, CA) crossed 12th in 1:50:55, and 15-year-old Dash Fiandaca (Foresthill, CA) finished 15th in 1:51:54 — two of the youngest competitors in the men's field of 46.

Travis Lavin ran the men's race exactly as a winner should: out front and never threatened. The 38-year-old from Reno held 1st place at every checkpoint, finishing in 1:10:31 at a 7:03/mi clip — a full two minutes and two seconds clear of Collin Paris. On the Fire Station→HWY 49 segment, Lavin posted the fastest split in the men's field, with Paris right behind him in second on that stretch too. The top two were simply in a different gear from everyone else on a warm day in Cool — 69°F with 33% humidity is no small ask over ten miles of Sierra Nevada foothills terrain.

Kevin Buffalino (age 39, Fair Oaks) rounded out the podium in 3rd at 1:21:16 (8:08/mi), with Michael Klingman (age 45, Fair Oaks) 4th in 1:25:47. Klingman's result is worth noting — at 45, he was running comfortably ahead of a field that included plenty of younger competitors. John Holcombe's 5th-place finish in 1:31:44 tells its own story: he stood on this same finish line a year ago in 5th place too, but this time he was 4:36 faster. That kind of improvement on a familiar course is a genuine result.

Daniel Pearson (age 61, Escalon) was 6th in 1:36:55, and Sam Mcmanis (age 65, Flagstaff) checked in 9th at 1:49:39 — two of the older athletes in the field running strong. At the other end of the age spectrum, Cody Skibby (13) and Dash Fiandaca (15) finished 12th and 15th respectively, separated by just 59 seconds. Positions 19 and 20 went to Anthony Boler and Shang Tsou, who posted the same displayed time of 2:01:12 — separated by just hundredths of a second at the line, with Boler holding 19th by the slimmest of margins.
