Under cool, humid skies in Bismarck — 58°F and 92% humidity with a light breeze — Laura Schmidt-Dockter of Bismarck delivered the win that mattered most: a 10K title at age 60, crossing in 8:53:04 at an 85:47/mi average. That she did it by fewer than 45 seconds over a field that bunched hard behind her makes the result all the more impressive. Lauren Emmel, also of Bismarck, gave chase to the finish and came closest, landing 2nd at 8:53:23. Wendy Kuehnel made the trip from Springfield, MO worthwhile with a 3rd-place finish at 8:53:49 — the podium decided within 45 seconds total.

Fourth through seventh place told a different story: Shelly Klein (Prescott Valley, AZ) broke away from that cluster with a 4th-place 8:59:21, but Tracey Compson, Lori Gietzen, and Kathryn Law all came home within nine seconds of each other between 9:00:38 and 9:01:34. Gietzen, at 65 the oldest athlete in the listed field, finishing 6th in that scrum is the kind of performance that deserves its own callout. Then came Erica Jost (9:01:52), Mandy Dietz (9:02:47), and Deann Fylling (9:03:17) — three more Bismarck-area runners stacking up in 8th, 9th, and 10th with barely 30 seconds between them.

The pattern continued deep into the results: from 6th through 20th place, Blair Wana's 9:13:06 was the only time to breach the 9:13 mark, meaning 15 finishers were packed into roughly 11 minutes of racing. With 15 more finishers beyond the top 20, the Masters Women field in Bismarck showed up, competed hard, and made nearly every position a genuine contest.
