Rebecca Echelbarger made this race look straightforward, and the numbers back it up. The 41-year-old Bismarck local led the women's field from the opening checkpoint to the tape, crossing in 1:34:43 at a 7:14/mi clip — a 2:17 cushion over second place. Her decisive move came between miles 2.5 and 4.8, where she posted the fastest women's split of that segment. No one answered.

Ashley Beach of Minot ran a composed, consistent race of her own, sitting second at every single checkpoint and finishing in 1:37:00 (7:24/mi). Tomma Brunken of Fargo was equally locked in, holding third throughout at 1:39:11 (7:34/mi). What makes the 2.5M–4.8M segment so striking is that the top four women ranked exactly 1st through 4th on it in the same order they'd finish — a sign that stretch was where the race's hierarchy truly crystallized.

The most interesting movement in the top five came from Tyla Wilson of Jamestown. The 48-year-old entered the 2.5-mile mark in 5th, moved to 4th on that key middle segment — posting the 4th-fastest women's split there — and held the position all the way home in 1:41:40 (7:45/mi). Further back, the 6th-through-9th spots produced two pairs of identical displayed times: Veronica Melby and Missy Schroeder both showed 1:43:51, with Melby edging 6th by the clock's finest measure, and Betsy Elsberry and Michelle Nyhus both clocked 1:46:38, finishing 8th and 9th.
