Santa Rosa 10K: Nuvit Salz dominates the F60-69 field

Nuvit Salz of Santa Rosa made this race her own from the start. The 64-year-old crossed the line in 54:44 — a brisk 8:49/mi — and no one in the F60-69 field came close. Her margin over second place was 4 minutes and 38 seconds, a gap that tells its own story: this was a dominant, wire-to-wire performance on a cool, lightly rainy morning in her home city.

Behind Salz, the real drama played out between Karen Egan and Jeanie Wise. The 65-year-old from Napa and the 68-year-old from El Dorado Hills ran the entire race within striking distance of each other, and when it was over, just 11 seconds separated them — Egan in 59:22 and Wise in 59:33. Both women broke the hour mark, which is a performance worth noting in its own right in a field of 33.

The middle of the field delivered its own cluster of competition. Karen Shields (4th, 1:05:21) and Fern Peltier (5th, 1:06:50) traded places in the 1:05–1:07 range, with Marcia Gookin (6th, 1:07:42) and Michelle Klemenok (7th, 1:07:50) arriving just 8 seconds apart less than a minute later. Sandy Smith (8th, 1:10:22) and Janet Adams (9th, 1:10:26) were even tighter — only 4 seconds between them — with Marie Rubio rounding out the top ten in 1:10:49.
