F19 & Under Half Marathon: Emma Wong Pulls Clear for the Win

• Emma Wong, 17, wins in 1:37:45 (7:27/mi), climbing from 36th among women at the first checkpoint to 18th by the finish — a relentless march through the field.
• Top three separated by under two minutes: Jessica Tsai 2nd in 1:38:33, Nevis Murphy 3rd in 1:39:34 — both 16–17 years old and racing well within the women's field.
• Siena Mallon, age 13, finished 9th in 1:50:29 — one of the youngest athletes in the field, crossing in 8:26/mi pace.
• Clara Nordahl and Kendra Weisman finished 7th and 8th in 1:49:27 and 1:49:28 respectively — one second apart after 13.1 miles.

Emma Wong ran the kind of race that looks easy on paper and is anything but. Starting 36th among women, the 17-year-old from Moraga worked her way forward at every checkpoint — 36th, 26th, 22nd, 20th, 18th — never leveling off, never fading. Her 7:27/mi average held firm through the hills, and she posted the 6th-fastest women's split on the 6.62M–7.12M segment, one of the race's more demanding stretches. She finished in 1:37:45, nearly a minute clear of the field.

Jessica Tsai (1:38:33) and Nevis Murphy (1:39:34) made it a genuinely competitive podium. Tsai, also 17 and from Pleasanton, ran a steady race that mirrored Wong's trajectory — moving from 31st among women to 20th — and closed with the 17th-fastest women's second-half split in the field. Murphy, 16, from Lafayette, was the youngest of the top three and ran a 7:36/mi pace to claim 3rd in 1:39:34, posting the 22nd-fastest women's split on that same mid-race segment. Karen Wan (4th, 1:41:21) and Kayla Wieckowski (5th, 1:42:23) rounded out the top five, though Wieckowski's gender place slipped from 23rd to 37th across the second half — the clearest fade among the leaders.

Further back, the race had its own stories. Clara Nordahl and Kendra Weisman crossed 7th and 8th in 1:49:27 and 1:49:28 — one second after more than an hour of racing. And Siena Mallon, just 13 years old from Santa Rosa, ran 8:26/mi to finish 9th in 1:50:29 — a result that stands on its own merits in a field of 50.
