The women's race at the 2024 San Francisco Half Marathon came down to as close a finish as 2,293 runners could produce. Megan Oneill of New York City and Christy Gately of San Francisco — local pride on the line — crossed in the exact same displayed time of 1:31:36 at a 6:59/mi clip. Oneill, however, was the one who got there first. Her route to the top was a story of steady climbing: she moved through the women's field from 8th to 7th, then to 2nd, before seizing the lead and holding it to the tape. Her decisive weapon was the 7.12M–10.65M stretch, where she posted the fastest women's split of the race. Gately answered with the fastest women's closing split from 10.65M to the finish — but it wasn't quite enough to overturn Oneill's lead, leaving her a heartbeat behind in 2nd.

Third place belonged to Ranyelle Ramos, 44, of Manteca, and her race was one of the afternoon's best stories. Starting well back in 22nd among women, she reeled off the fastest women's split on the 6.62M–7.12M segment and kept climbing — 12th, 9th, 5th — before locking in 3rd at 1:32:34. Behind her, the next three finishers — Lazarin (1:33:07), Deng (1:33:10), and Gao (1:33:11) — were locked in their own private battle, separated by a mere four seconds. Danna Lazarin of México City ran the 2nd-fastest closing split among women to secure 4th, while Deng had done her damage earlier, running the fastest women's split through the 2.13M–6.62M corridor to hold 4th for most of the race before being edged out late.

Further back, the leaderboard was full of Bay Area runners making their mark on home roads. Brianna Breimayer (8th, 1:33:33), Lissie Ng (9th, 1:34:36), and Samantha Costantini (10th, 1:35:49) rounded out the top ten. And 19-year-old Areli Martinez Acosta — who had already raced to 5th in the Saturday 5K earlier in the weekend — finished 19th here in 1:38:07, one of the more quietly impressive doubles of the event.
