Kaua'i Half Marathon F16-19: Kadiam Runs Away with It

• Neha Kadiam won the F16-19 age group in 2:06:11 (9:38/mi), finishing more than 10 minutes clear of the field.
• The gap from 1st to 10th spanned 1:35:57 — a wide spread across 10 finishers racing in 77°F humidity on Kauai.
• Lucy Minnig (3rd, 2:18:36) and Elsa Minnig (5th, 2:23:14) — both 16 and 18 years old from Seattle — each posted their strongest split in the first half of the race, then faded among the women's field in the back half.
• Maguire Lima and Alyssa Pong both closed strongly, each posting top-150 women's splits on the final 11.05-mile-to-finish segment to hold 2nd and 4th.

Neha Kadiam, 18, from Bothell, WA, was never seriously threatened. She entered the race sitting 131st among women, climbed to 120th at the next checkpoint, and reached 108th by the finish — a steady, confident progression through the field that reflected her 9:38/mi pace. Her final segment was the 69th-fastest women's split on the 11.05 Mile to Finish stretch, a strong close that underscored just how controlled her effort was from start to end.

Behind her, the race for 2nd through 5th had some genuine texture. Maguire Lima (2:16:24) and Alyssa Pong (2:20:35) were both movers in the back half, Lima posting the 140th-fastest and Pong the 146th-fastest women's split on that closing segment. The Minnig sisters — Lucy in 3rd at 2:18:36 and Elsa in 5th at 2:23:14 — told the opposite story: both were climbing the women's standings through the first half before fading, each ending up further back among women than where they stood at the midpoint.

The back half of the F16-19 field stretched out considerably. Grace Sarmiento (6th, 2:35:30) through Lauae Gutierrez (10th, 3:42:08) covered a range of nearly 67 minutes, with local Kauai runners Keira Garcia, Palma Gorman, Ella Vicoy, and Gutierrez — all from the island — rounding out the group. Gutierrez, 16, was the youngest finisher and crossed in 3:42:08 at 16:57/mi, completing the race under conditions that tested everyone on the course.
