Runar Saether, 49 years old and racing out of Brough, Great Britain, delivered the dominant performance of the M40-49 field. His 9:34/mi average — sustained over a course that climbs and descends through thin Sierra Nevada air — was simply in another class. He moved through the men's field steadily, ending where he started in terms of overall men's position (35th), with a brief dip mid-race before pulling back level by the finish. At 49, winning this group outright is a statement.

Adam Zastrow was the race's most compelling mover behind the leader. Starting 58th among the men, he worked his way to 46th by the finish — a net gain of 12 places — and backed it up with the 42nd-fastest split on the second half among the men. His 2:24:39 earned him a clear second, 6:32 ahead of Levi Webb. Webb himself ran a solid third in 2:31:11 but faded slightly mid-race before recovering on the final High Camp-to-finish segment.

The battle for fifth was the closest contest on the day. Ian Nickles (2:41:53, Lafayette, CA) and Ryan Hartwig (2:42:45, Twentynine Palms, CA) were separated by just 52 seconds after more than two and a half hours of racing at altitude — a margin that, given the conditions, could have swung either way on the descent. Behind them, Brooks Rahmer, Samuel Gooch, and Goran Lynch ran in tight formation through places 7–9, all finishing within three minutes of each other between 2:46 and 2:50.
