Brandon Moran made this race look like a different event from everyone else's. His 16:06 at 5:11/mi wasn't just a win — it was a statement, putting 49 seconds between himself and Homer's Ian Rauber (16:55, 5:27/mi) and a full 1:12 ahead of third-place James Taafel of Front Royal, VA, who crossed in 17:18 at 5:34/mi. On a muggy July morning in Utica — 75°F and 90% humidity — that kind of gap takes real work to build and hold.

Behind the podium, the story belonged largely to teenagers. Sawyer Sweet (17, Utica) and Christopher Carbone (17, Barneveld) both returned from 2024 appearances — Sweet had been 9th in 17:57, Carbone 10th in 18:06 — and both moved up the leaderboard in 2025, finishing 4th (18:09) and 7th (18:50) respectively. Nikolas Rebovich also came back, having been 8th in 17:43 last year; he finished 5th this time in 18:15, a slower time but still a competitive result in a tough morning. Vincent Derocco (45, Leesburg, VA) slipped between them in 6th at 18:17, proving the men's top ten had no patience for age-group boundaries.

The stretch from 10th through 15th place was a genuine logjam, with Jack Reale (19:13), J. Roth (19:20), Tj Swinson (19:21), Daniel Gowans (19:22), Antonio Bridenbecker (19:23), and Ian Grove (19:24) — five finishers separated by just eleven seconds. Roth, at 12 years old, running 6:13/mi to hold his own in that cluster, was one of the afternoon's quieter surprises. Devon McClendon rounded out the listed field in 20th at 20:13, capping a top 20 that spanned ages 12 through 45.
