Amy Roberson of Sauquoit, NY, made the Masters Women's race her own from start to finish. Her 22:26 at 7:13/mi wasn't just a win — it was a statement, putting 1:11 between herself and the entire rest of the field. In conditions that had everyone working harder than the clock suggests — thick humidity, warm air — that kind of margin demands respect.

Sue Dehaan of Montreal made the podium look easy at 58 years old. Her 23:37 (7:36/mi) was good for 2nd, and the gap she put on the athletes behind her is worth noting: Carla Ryan crossed 3rd in 24:12, meaning Dehaan had nearly 35 seconds in hand on the rest of the chase pack. At an age when many runners have long since backed off the pace, Dehaan ran a genuinely fast 5K in genuinely tough conditions.

The race for 3rd was the afternoon's tightest subplot. Whitesboro's Carla Ryan held on in 24:12, but Clinton's Sara Groh and Vienna's Jesselyn Garrisi were right on her heels — Groh in 24:14, Garrisi also 24:14 — with the timing wire separating 4th from 5th where the clock couldn't.
