F50-59 at American River 50: Ginny Daly Holds Her Line to Take the Title

Ginny Daly, 53, from Granite Bay, ran a composed and controlled 50 miles to claim the F50-59 title. Her gender place among the women's field hovered between 7th and 8th throughout the race before settling at 7th — a sign of consistent pacing rather than dramatic swings. At 13:05 per mile across 50 miles on a warm, clear April day, she never let the race come to her; she simply stayed ahead of it.

Sharon Bonagura had a more eventful afternoon. She moved up to 5th among the women early in the race before gradually slipping back, crossing the line 10th among all women finishers and 2nd in F50-59 at 11:10:48. She still matched Daly with the 9th-fastest women's split on Willow Creek→Beals Point, showing she had plenty of life in the later miles even if the middle of the race cost her some ground. Leah Cox, also 53, ran a remarkably steady race — holding 14th among women from checkpoint to checkpoint without deviation — and earned 3rd in the group at 11:39:06.

The back half of the field told its own story of grit. Hansell (4th, 12:01:38) and Fackenthal (5th, 12:26:17) both found something on the brutal Last Gasp→Finish stretch, each posting top-16 women's splits on that closing segment — strong finishes after long days. Jeanine Kobza, Tawnee Vega, and Jennifer James, all 50 or 51, rounded out the group, with James crossing in 14:00:03 to close out the F50-59 field. Eleven started, eleven finished.
