  • Kiplagat takes it in 2:25:42 (5:33/mi), finishing 4th among all women — the fastest Masters Women's time on the day by four minutes.
  • Lauren Hagans runs the fastest first-half split among all women en route to 2:29:42, placing 2nd in Masters Women.
  • Roberta Groner, 48, closes hard — 10th-fastest women's split from mile 26 to the finish — to claim 3rd in 2:35:55.
  • Melanie Magarey goes out fastest (2nd-fastest women's split on the 5K–4M stretch) but fades from 2nd among all women to 25th, finishing 4th in Masters Women in 2:36:12.

Edna Kiplagat, 46 years old and running in Longmont, CO colors, delivered the defining performance of the Masters Women's race across 26.2 miles through all five New York City boroughs. Her 5:33/mi average produced a 2:25:42 — good for 4th among all women on the day — and she moved with purpose throughout, working her way from 7th among women at the first checkpoint to 4th by the finish. She also posted the fastest women's split on the mile-5-to-mile-6 stretch, a sign of someone racing with control and intent, not just surviving. In a field of 10,324 Masters Women finishers, nobody came close.

The battle for second place was decided well before Central Park. Lauren Hagans of Flagstaff ran the fastest first-half split among all women — a remarkable statement of front-end speed — and climbed from 20th among women at the opening checkpoint all the way to 9th by halfway. She couldn't quite sustain that pace over the back half, but 2:29:42 (5:43/mi) was more than enough to claim second in Masters Women by more than six minutes over Groner.

Roberta Groner, 48, from Rochelle Park, NJ, was steady all day — hovering around 27th among women from miles 3 through 20 — before a late surge brought her home in 2:35:55. Her 10th-fastest women's split from mile 26 to the finish was a gutsy close. She edged Melanie Magarey by just 17 seconds for third, but Magarey's story ran in the opposite direction: the Australian went out at a scorching pace (2nd-fastest women's split on the 5K–4M segment), sat 2nd among all women early, then gradually faded to 25th among women by the finish, crossing in 2:36:12.

Stephanie Bruce (2:38:57, 5th) and Christa Cain (2:40:00, 6th) rounded out the top six, with Susanne Kaufmann (2:47:56) and Laurie Knowles (2:48:08, 49) leading a deep field that stretched well past the 20 named finishers here.
