The M18-39 story is one of lead changes and nerve. Kejelcha surged to the front early and owned the top spot through 15K, posting the fastest split of anyone in the group on that opening 10K–15K stretch. Kiplimo, meanwhile, was running his own measured race in second, and briefly moved to the front between 15K and 20K before the pack reshuffled. Kipruto sat patiently in fourth or fifth for most of the afternoon and never really threatened the top three, but he was rock-steady — fourth at every checkpoint, fourth at the line.

The decisive move came from Sawe. He was as low as fourth in the men's field around the 10K mark, but he posted the fastest split in the group on the 25K–30K segment and used that surge to climb to the lead. He briefly ceded it before reclaiming it for good, crossing in 1:59:30 — a 4:33/mi average on a cool, breezy London afternoon. Kejelcha had the speed to stay close but couldn't close the gap those final miles, finishing 11 seconds adrift.

Tamirat Tola was the quiet mover of the day, climbing from sixth all the way to fifth by the finish (2:02:59, 4:41/mi) and posting the second-fastest split in the group on the 5K–10K segment. Behind him, the battle from sixth through eleventh was fierce — Geleta, Gobena, Kamworor, Lynch, Mahamed, and Dever all finished within 55 seconds of each other. Peter Lynch and Mahamed Mahamed both clocked 4:49/mi, separated by only six seconds at the line.
