Wong's race unfolded with a notable surge in the back half — his gender-place tracking shows him moving from outside the top 4,000 at the halfway mark to finishing 1,065th among all women and men combined in the second half, a sign that he was reeling in runners well into the late miles.

Guihua Li, 70, of Shanghai, held 2nd place steadily throughout, crossing in 4:26:40 at a 10:10/mi pace.
