He sat 2nd in the men's field at the opening checkpoint, then surged to the front by the 5-mile mark — posting the fastest middle split (5M→10.9M) among the men — and never relinquished it. His 1:08:34 at 5:14/mi was a performance that dominated the M30-34 field of 383 and stood as the fastest men's time on the day.

Shadrack Kipchirchir, also out of Colorado Springs, looked like the man to beat early on, leading the men's field through the first checkpoint. But the race turned decisively in the middle stretch, where Orta's superior 5M→10.9M split opened a gap Kipchirchir couldn't close. To his credit, Kipchirchir ran the fastest closing leg among the men — but it was damage control by then. He finished 2nd in 1:12:58, a clear 4:24 behind Orta.

Chris Holve (1:15:46) was remarkably consistent, tracking between 10th and 13th in the men's field throughout and finishing 3rd. Benjamin Enowitz (1:17:11) and Quinn Peck (1:17:16) were separated by just five seconds at the line — but Peck earned that gap the hard way, climbing steadily from 24th in the men's field at the 5-mile mark, while Enowitz held relatively steady. Behind them, Jay Patel (1:18:20) and Diego Pastrano (1:18:44) rounded out a tight top seven before a two-minute gap opened to Daniel Agostinelli in 8th (1:19:51).
