By mile 18 she had moved to 27th among women, and from there she unleashed one of the sharpest closing efforts in the women's field — the 8th-fastest women's split over the final 6.2-mile stretch — rocketing from 27th to 10th among women and putting the F1-19 title firmly out of reach. At 7:32/mi for 26.2 miles, it was a commanding performance.

Nicole Dillmann, the San Francisco local, ran a composed race of her own. She surged on the 14.95–18 mile segment — posting the 19th-fastest women's split on that stretch — moving from 57th to 38th among women. That burst pushed her clear of the chasing pack in the F1-19 field, and she held on for 2nd at 3:27:42, a 7:55/mi effort that was never quite enough to threaten Maioriello's lead.

Padberg (3rd, 3:41:05) came out of the gates hard with a strong early split but faded across the second half, slipping from 43rd among women to 68th by the finish. Leah Abraham, 4th in 3:50:19, ran a steady if unspectacular race from well back in the women's field. And then there was Sandhu — 14 years old, from Dublin, CA — grinding out all 26.2 miles at 8:54/mi to cross 5th in 3:53:18. In a field of accomplished teenagers, that stands out on its own.
