Julia Day made it look easy. The 20-year-old from Edgewood, KY, finished in 7:44:27 — averaging 7:44 per mile — and left the rest of the women's field well behind. Runner-up Vivian Zou of Florence, AL, came home in 7:49:02, a solid effort at age 52, but Day's margin of 4:35 was never really in question. What makes it all the more impressive: Day had already claimed the women's 5K title earlier in the day. Two races, two wins — that's the headline of the entire event.

Behind Zou, the race got genuinely tight. Teresa Berlin (3rd, 7:51:30) and Leigh Barton (4th, 7:51:41) were separated by just 11 seconds, and the cluster from 5th through 9th — Kim Allan, Lori Joas, Patty Elangwe, Virginia Brooks, and Beatriz Garcia — all finished within 37 seconds of each other, between 7:52:51 and 7:53:28. In that group, Kim Allan (5th) and Virginia Brooks (8th) each brought extra context: both also raced the 5K, with Allan finishing 9th and Brooks 10th among the women there.

One subplot worth a second look: 14-year-old Jerusalem Berlin of Prospect, TN, finished 16th in 7:57:38 — and Teresa Berlin, 3rd overall, hails from the same town. The top 20 rounded out with Christina Swieda (10th, 7:55:26) through Susan Upward (20th, 7:58:07), a span of just 2:41 across eleven finishers — a testament to how competitive the middle of this women's field was on a warm, humid December morning in Huntsville.
