Chien-Hua Lu of San Jose made the Masters Men race his own from the gun, finishing in 18:58 at a 6:06/mi clip — 59 seconds ahead of runner-up Matt Mayberry (19:57, 6:25/mi). In a 94-man field running through Napa's cool, humid morning air, that kind of margin doesn't happen by accident. Lu simply ran at a different level.

Mayberry held second comfortably, but behind him the race delivered one of the tightest podium battles of the day. Daniel Feldman of Lafayette finished 3rd in 20:05 and Robbie Cahill of Mill Valley was right on his heels in 4th at 20:06 — a single second separating them after more than three miles of racing. Both averaged 6:28/mi, but Feldman got there first. Nicklaus Morton rounded out the top five in 23:16, with Bradley Libuit (6th, 23:32) and Rob Hillas (7th, 24:00) forming a tight cluster behind him.

Further back, the field told its own story. Trini Ruiz, 54, turned in an 11th-place finish at 25:59 — an 8:22/mi effort that put him ahead of men a decade younger. And Marc Rohman, 63 years old and representing Palo Alto, crossed 18th in 28:31, the eldest man in the top 20 and still moving at a pace that would leave plenty of younger runners behind. With 94 Masters Men finishing on the Kiwanis Club's out-and-back course, the depth of this field was real — and the stories at every corner of the leaderboard were worth watching.
