Napa Valley 5K: Lindsey Schmidt Runs Away from the F25-29 Field

• Lindsey Schmidt, 1st — 19:22 (6:14/mi): Won the F25-29 race by an extraordinary 4 minutes and 47 seconds over runner-up Hannah Calo.
• Hannah Calo (2nd, 24:09) vs. Emily Nelsen (3rd, 24:20): The closest battle of the day — just 11 seconds separated second from third at the line.
• Hannah Murray finished 4th in 25:53, while the next 15 finishers (5th through 19th) were packed within a four-minute window from 27:17 to 31:25.
• 66 finishers completed the F25-29 race on a cool, humid Napa morning — 55°F with 93% humidity and an 8 mph breeze off the out-and-back course.

Lindsey Schmidt of Mountain View simply ran a different race than everyone else. Her 19:22 finish at a 6:14/mi clip wasn't just a win — it was a statement. The gap between her and second place was wider than the gap between second place and 20th. In a field of 66, that kind of separation is rare, and it defined the F25-29 story from the moment she crossed the line.

Behind Schmidt, the real racing happened between Hannah Calo (Boulder Creek) and Emily Nelsen (Davis). Calo crossed in 24:09 at a 7:46/mi pace to claim second, with Nelsen finishing just 11 seconds later in 24:20 at 7:50/mi. Those are meaningfully different paces — Nelsen was running slightly slower per mile — meaning Calo held her advantage to the finish rather than being run down. Third place was earned, not gifted.

Hannah Murray of Oceanside checked in 4th at 25:53, putting a bit of daylight between herself and the cluster that formed behind her. From 5th through 7th — Julia Lokey (27:17), Ran Liu (27:37), and Nubia Pina (27:39) — the spread was just 22 seconds across three finishers. Brooke Hummel and Ariana Zhu both clocked 27:49 to take 8th and 9th respectively, separated only by the timing chip, not the clock display.

The Kiwanis Club of Greater Napa put on a race where every dollar raised heads back into the community — and on a cool, cloudy morning along the valley floor, 66 women in the F25-29 field gave them plenty to celebrate.
