Carolyn Strout, 80, of Fairfield, CA, gave chase throughout, but the gap between them was never truly in doubt. On the critical middle leg from 3.1 to 6.9 miles, Ostlund ran the faster split — and that advantage compounded across the back half of the course. Strout held her own pace steadily, finishing in 3:45:48 at 17:13/mi, a full 25 minutes and 58 seconds behind the winner but no less committed to the finish line.

Both women actually moved up in the women's field during the final segment — Strout held her position at 1,444th among women, while Ostlund climbed from 1,408th to 1,404th — small gains that reflect real effort maintained through the wind and the miles. In a field of two, every step counts, and both Ostlund and Strout delivered every one of them.
