Brenna Broadnax, 54, from San Jose, made short work of a course that climbs and descends between 6,220 and 7,191 feet above sea level — thin air that can punish even well-prepared mountain runners. She averaged 24:12 per mile across the five miles of technical terrain and crossed the line nearly 18 minutes before anyone else in the F50-59 race. That kind of margin on a course this demanding isn't a gap — it's a statement.

Behind her, the race for second was the most compelling subplot. Deidra Brauns of Stockton, 52, and Emily Chou of San Diego, 50, were separated by just over nine minutes at the finish — meaningful on a five-mile skyrace, but tight enough to suggest the two were racing each other through the bulk of the course. Brauns, at 27:49 per mile, held the steadier pace and secured the runner-up spot with something to spare.

Besaint Sahni, 53, from Sunnyvale, brought it home in 2:35:22 to close out a four-woman F50-59 field that covered the course in a 35-minute spread from first to last. At 6,700-plus feet with a 17 mph wind and just 19% humidity — dry, breezy, and oxygen-thin — finishing this course at any pace is a genuine athletic achievement. All four did exactly that.
