Behind Jensen, the real drama played out in a tight three-man contest for the podium. Noah Cowley, 21, ran with the second pack through the first 18 miles, but faded over the back half and ultimately finished 5th in 2:51:18. The men who passed him told the story: Toso surged through the early miles — his 3rd-fastest men's split on the 2.5M–4.8M segment helped him move from 3rd to 2nd — while Kaczmarek, 28, posted the 2nd-fastest men's split on the 16.1M–18.5M stretch and locked in 3rd. Fourth place went to Judson White of Ridgefield, WA, who ran the fastest men's closing split from 23.8M to the finish to edge past Cowley and clock 2:50:29. Zane Frick (6th, 2:55:37) and Hunter Chear (7th, 2:58:13) rounded out a competitive top ten that saw four men break 3:00 on a cool, clear September morning in Bismarck. Jared Thigpen, 44, was the final man under three hours, crossing in 2:59:57 — a 6:52/mi effort that held off Seth Kelly's 3:04:36 by more than four minutes.
