Fifteen kids toed the line in Virginia Beach on a mild, breezy March afternoon — 62°F, a light 9 mph wind off the coast — and Dominic Bishop, a 7-year-old from Pinehurst, NC, made it look easy. His 7:41 was a full 48 seconds faster than anyone else in the group, a dominant wire-to-wire performance that would turn heads in any age group.

Behind him, the race for 2nd and 3rd was genuinely tight. Rayden Brice (age 9, Virginia Beach) held off Vann Enriquez (age 8, also Virginia Beach) by just five seconds — 8:29 to 8:34 — with Annabella Fancy rounding out the top four in 9:12.
