Mark Bernstein didn't just win M70-74 at the 2023 Napa Valley Marathon 5K — he was the entire field. The 74-year-old Napa local toed the line on a cool, blustery March morning and made sure there was no question about who owned this bracket.

Covering the course at 14:21 per mile in 42°F air with a stiff wind cutting across the valley, Bernstein finished in 44:34. That's not a number to wave away — getting out the door and covering 3.1 miles under those conditions at 74 years old is a statement in itself.
