There was no question who would take the F75-79 title at the 2022 Napa Valley Marathon 5K — Gloria Galofre-Ross of Napa was the one who showed up, and that takes nothing away from what she did.

At 76 years old, Galofre-Ross stepped onto the course in frigid 36°F conditions and covered 3.1 miles at a 10:37-per-mile clip, crossing the line in 32:59. Running a 5K in near-freezing temperatures is a commitment that most people — of any age — would rather skip. She didn't.

Galofre-Ross claimed the F75-79 crown outright, the sole finisher in her field and the undisputed champion of it. Sometimes the win is about showing up and seeing it through. On a cold March morning in Napa, she did exactly that.
