Masters Female 10K: Vollmer dominates on home turf

• Molly Vollmer, 41, wins in 45:35 — a 7:20/mi pace that put more than four minutes between her and every other Masters Female finisher.
• Ann Thrupp, 68, takes 2nd at 49:52 — the oldest athlete on the podium, outrunning a field full of runners nearly two decades her junior.
• Myriam Dalmau (3rd, 50:13) and Sara Martinez (4th, 50:44) — separated by just 31 seconds across 6.2 miles.
• Castolina Franco (15th) and Erin Bennett (16th) — both clocked 58:09, with Franco edging ahead by just 0.12 seconds at the line.

On a crisp 44°F morning in Petaluma, Molly Vollmer made the Masters Female 10K look like a solo time trial. The local runner crossed in 45:35 at 7:20/mi — a margin of 4:17 over second place that left no drama at the front. In a 106-finisher field, that kind of separation is a statement.

The real story behind Vollmer was Ann Thrupp of Sebastopol, who at 68 years old ran 49:52 at an 8:02/mi pace to claim 2nd. Age was just a number for Thrupp, who finished ahead of dozens of women significantly younger. Myriam Dalmau (55, Santa Rosa) rounded out the podium in 50:13, with Sara Martinez (52, Concord) close behind in 50:44 — those two traded 8:05 and 8:10 paces for a tight but clean 31-second separation. Morgan Filler (51, Petaluma) completed the top five in 51:37.

The middle of the field had its own drama. Tiffany Jones (7th, 53:12) and Ana Guillen (6th, 52:59) were separated by just 13 seconds, while further back, Macy Juhola (9th, 54:17) and Laura Rodrigo (8th, 54:11) were only six seconds apart. Then near the 15th spot, Castolina Franco and Erin Bennett delivered the race's most precise finish: Franco crossed in 58:09.08, Bennett in 58:09.20 — 0.12 seconds between them after more than 58 minutes of racing. And to close out the top 20, Tanya Almlie (20th, 1:00:34) finished just one second behind Jessica Scerri (19th, 1:00:33) — proof that the competition in this field ran deep well beyond the podium.
