Sam Patterson set the tone early and never let go. His gender place climbed from 9th to 8th to 7th as the race progressed — a steady, disciplined move through the field at nearly 12 minutes per mile on a demanding 25-mile course in the Auburn foothills. Then came a significant gap: Buck Branum (54) arrived at 6:11:46 to open the back half of the M50-59 field, followed by Adwait Samant, Brian King, Josh de Bord, Joseph Sellner, and Adam Williams — all finishing between 6:16 and 6:38, separated by just 21 minutes across five runners on a clear, mild April morning in Auburn.
