Women's 5K: Teenager Sidney Logsdon Dominates San Francisco

Under grey San Francisco skies — 56°F, light rain, and a stiff 13 mph wind off the bay — Sidney Logsdon of Turlock ran like the conditions were made for her. The 17-year-old crossed in 19:17 at a 6:12/mi clip, building a margin that no one in the 937-woman field could touch. Runner-up Maria Aleman, 36, of Las Vegas gave chase and finished a solid 20:06 (6:28/mi), but the gap to Logsdon was 49 seconds — decisive from wire to wire.

The podium's most compelling story belongs to Megan Kossar. The 54-year-old San Franciscan ran 20:38 (6:38/mi) to claim 3rd, outrunning Vibhu Krishna (4th, 20:48, 6:42/mi) and the entire rest of the field behind her. Kossar's pace wasn't a consolation — it was a statement. Kelsey Chope rounded out the top five in 21:19 (6:52/mi), while Jocelyn Uraje, another 17-year-old, took 6th in 21:51 (7:02/mi) — a notably different gear from the winning pace but a strong result in her own right.

Further back, the race delivered one of its tightest battles between 15th and 17th. Linette Gharibi (24:28), Liv Paxton (24:30), and Sydney Schaefer (24:30) finished within two seconds of each other — places decided by fractions the clock barely shows. Paxton's presence here is worth a separate note: she had already raced the full Marathon earlier in the weekend, finishing 7th among women in that event. Adding a 5K to that effort and landing in the top 20 of a 937-woman field is one of the weekend's standout doubles.

Sidney Logsdon's younger sister Bridget, 15, also made the trip from Turlock and finished 10th in 23:12 (7:28/mi) — a family result worth noting in a field this large.
