Starting in 5th at the first checkpoint, Smith surged to the front by the 10K mark and never looked back, holding 1st place through every subsequent checkpoint on the way to a 2:20:24 finish at 5:21/mi. He also posted the fastest men's split from the gun to the 10K mark, setting the tone for a dominant performance from wire to wire.

Behind him, Angel Castro (2:30:24, 5:44/mi) and Bryan Banuelos (2:31:27, 5:47/mi) fought out the real drama of the day. Castro ran a composed, consistent race — sitting 3rd early, climbing to 2nd by 10K, and never surrendering that spot. Banuelos told a different story: he was 8th at the halfway point but ran the 2nd-fastest second-half split among the men, sweeping past several rivals to claim 3rd in the closing miles. A 63-second gap separated 2nd from 3rd at the line.

Adrian Haywas, 37, from San Diego, was the veteran presence in the top five — finishing 4th in 2:34:35 (5:54/mi) after posting the 3rd-fastest men's split in the opening 10K. Oscar Perez, 38, rounded out the top five in 2:35:44, closing with the 2nd-fastest men's split on the final stretch from 25.2 miles to the finish — a strong surge in the heat that edged him past Haywas in the late miles. Connor Nolen (6th, 2:36:36) through Christian Santana (10th, 2:40:12) completed a tight cluster, with just over three and a half minutes separating 6th from 10th on a warm Fresno morning.
