Men's Race: Grassly Controls London from Gun to Tape

• Seyfu Jamaal (2:15:30) moved from 8th at 5K all the way to 2nd by 30K before being edged back to 3rd at the line — the race's most dramatic trajectory.
• Sam Eglen (2:16:27) was the men's biggest mover, surging from 27th at 5K to 4th overall, with the 7th-fastest closing split among the men.

George Grassly never let anyone else write the story. He held 1st among the men from the opening checkpoint all the way through to the finish line, crossing in 2:12:54 at a relentless 5:04/mi — and his 5K–10K split was the fastest of any man in the field. In cool, breezy London conditions, that kind of front-running dominance is a statement.

Behind him, the real drama played out in the chasing pack. Seyfu Jamaal was the most aggressive mover in the race, working his way up from 8th at 5K, through 5th at 10K, and all the way to 2nd by 30K — but he couldn't hold it. Charlie Davis, patient through the first half, made his move late. Davis's 40K–Finish split was the 2nd-fastest among the men, and that closing surge was enough to leapfrog Jamaal and claim 2nd in 2:14:48. Jamaal finished 3rd in 2:15:30, just 42 seconds adrift of Davis — a hard-earned podium after leading the chase for much of the race.

The story of the men's field beyond the podium belongs to Sam Eglen. Starting the 5K checkpoint in 27th, Eglen methodically picked off runners one by one, posting the 7th-fastest closing split among the men to land 4th in 2:16:27. Julian Ranc (5th, 2:16:51) also made significant ground, running the 3rd-fastest 10K–15K split among the men to climb from 11th into the top five. Further back, Oliver Way (6th, 2:17:28), Hugo Fry (7th, 2:17:31), and Jonathan Coates (8th, 2:17:33) finished within five seconds of each other — a tight cluster in a men's field of 33,594.
