Men's 10K: Gaylord Runs Away With It at 18

• Cormac Gaylord, 18, wins in 34:58 — a 5:38/mi clip that put 36 seconds between him and runner-up Christopher Fuentes (35:34).
• Scot McLean, 58, finishes 4th overall among men in 36:55 (5:56/mi) — the standout age-vs.-place story of the race.

Sebastopol's own Cormac Gaylord crossed the line in 34:58, running 5:38 per mile to claim the men's title at just 18 years old. His margin was decisive — 36 seconds clear of Christopher Fuentes (35:34, 5:43/mi) of San Francisco, and a full 1:40 ahead of third-place Chandler Gorham (36:38, 5:54/mi) out of Los Angeles. The top three were in a class of their own; after Gorham, the next finisher was already 17 seconds back.

That fourth-place finisher is one of the more remarkable numbers on the board: Scot McLean of San Anselmo, age 58, crossed in 36:55 at 5:56/mi. That puts him ahead of 340 other men, including a field full of runners half his age. Joey Bowser (37:48) and William Bentley (37:50) rounded out the top six in a near-photo-finish battle of their own — two seconds covering both of them after 6.2 miles.

The race thinned out considerably after the top six. John Wyman of Flagstaff clocked 39:00 for 7th, and then a cluster of men — Javier Guerrero (40:17), Mark McDermott (40:58), Alexis Figueroa (40:59), Miguel Rodriguez (41:04), and Aleksandar Naumoski (41:06) — compressed into a 49-second window from 8th through 12th. The 60°F drizzle kept conditions honest throughout, and 344 men made it to the finish line across the field.
