Luke Masefield, a 30-year-old local running in his own backyard, led the men's race wire to wire — sitting 1st at the halfway checkpoint and never relinquishing it. Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and looping through Golden Gate Park and the Embarcadero twice over, he averaged 7:27/mi across all 52.4 miles to finish in 6:30:15. He also posted the fastest second-marathon split among the men, which tells you the lead wasn't just held — it was earned on the back half when others faded.

The podium battle was the race's best subplot. John Jones (36, New York) held 2nd at the halfway mark, but Carson Clowes (36, Paso Robles) ran the second marathon faster, posting the 2nd-fastest closing split among the men to overtake Jones and claim 2nd in 6:37:19. Jones held on for 3rd in 6:41:44 — just over four minutes separating 2nd and 3rd, but the order had genuinely changed hands in the second loop.

Further back, a cluster of men separated themselves from the broader field. Pedro Paulino Pais Abreu (33, Sunnyvale) was the most consistent of the mid-pack movers, finishing 4th in 7:11:47 — a full 30 minutes clear of 5th. Slingerland's climb from 8th to 5th in 7:41:08 was the day's most notable position gain. Then came a tight pack from 6th through 12th — Olivier Deshaies (8:05:50), Daniel Chang (8:06:05), and David Hulton (8:08:56) all finishing within three minutes of each other — before Rodney Martin (53, Fresno) became the day's age outlier, finishing 13th in 8:27:25 at a pace most runners half his age would respect on a single marathon, let alone two.
