Samier Barguil didn't lead early — he sat 7th through the opening miles — but the 34-year-old from Madrid, NC, was building toward something. By the halfway point he had climbed to 3rd, and through the 6.62M–10.65M stretch he posted the fastest split of any man in the field, vaulting to 2nd. He hit the front shortly after and held it all the way to the tape, finishing in 1:14:11 at a 5:40/mi clip — a clear margin over a competitive men's field on a cool, overcast San Francisco morning.

Behind him, the race for 2nd and 3rd was a story of contrasting surges. Agustin Gomez De La Vega, the 20-year-old from Dublin, CA, ran a patient first half — sitting as low as 4th — before unleashing the 2nd-fastest closing split in the men's field to secure 2nd in 1:16:27. Cameron Slovic took a similar late-race approach, working from 11th all the way to 3rd with the 3rd-fastest second-half split among the men, finishing in 1:19:16. Tomohito Kurihara (4th, 1:20:01) also found his legs late, posting the 4th-fastest split from 10.65M to the finish.

The charge for the top five was just as dramatic further back. Griffin Schreader ran from 13th — as low as 17th midway — to finish 5th in 1:21:59, edging Nima Leclerc by three seconds (1:22:02) in a tight battle for the final top-five spot. Two teenagers added their own footnote to the day: 17-year-old Nicholas Guan (8th, 1:23:10) and 16-year-old Cadan Felten (10th, 1:24:26) both cracked the top ten in a men's field of 3,331.
