The men's race from Prospect Park to Central Park was a tactical chess match that didn't reveal its winner until the back half. Wildschutt sat 11th through the first 5K checkpoint — patient, or perhaps just finding his legs in the crisp 40°F morning — before launching a move that brought him all the way to 3rd by 10K. Then came the signature moment: his fastest-in-the-field split from 10K to 15K vaulted him into the lead, and he held it clean to the tape in 59:30.

Talbi and Singh made him work for it. Talbi had actually led at 5K, posting the fastest men's split on that opening segment and holding the top spot through 10K before fading slightly in the final third — finishing 11 seconds back in 59:41. Singh was right behind at 59:42, a single second further adrift. Maier's race deserves its own mention. Twenty-year-old Shunsuke Kuwata of Tokyo rounded out the top ten in 1:00:13 — a performance worth watching in a men's field of 14,844.
